In the Department of Speech-Language Sciences, Dr. R. Rajasudhakar holds the position of Associate Professor in Speech Science. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing and Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2003 and 2005 respectively, at the All India Institute of Speech & Hearing in Mysore. Under the supervision of late Dr. S R Savithri, the former Director of AIISH, Mysore, he completed his Doctoral thesis in 2015. As part of his Ph.D thesis, he measured the vocal recovery index, assessed daily and weekly vocal load in primary school teachers using time dose analysis, and quantified the prevalence of vocal fatigue symptoms.
His research focuses on voice sciences and disorders, speech acoustics, singing voice, speech-language perception/processing, swallowing issues in patients with stroke and head and neck cancers. He actively teaches at graduate and undergraduate speech-language pathology students.
He has completed six-months Clinical Fellowship Program for Speech Language Pathologists in Laryngology at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Center (DMH & RC) in Pune, India from January to June of 2023. He gained experiences in evaluating and managing patients with voice problems, airway issues and dysphagia due to neurological conditions and head and neck cancers. The six-months fellowship program provided him the chance to carry out clinical swallow examination, flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), laryngectomy rehabilitation, post phono-surgery voice therapy and dysphagia evaluation and therapy for patients admitted to the in-patient department (IPD), including the intensive care unit (ICU) and high dependency unit (HDU).
He holds lifetime memberships in the Indian Speech and Hearing Association; Acoustical Society of India; Rehabilitation Council of India; and Indian Laryngology and Voice Association (LVA).
