Overview

The Center for Prevention of Communication Disorders & Epidemiological Research & Cognitive Behavioural Science in Communication Disorders (C-PEC) is a specialized Research Center at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, established to address the growing need for population-level research, early detection, and preventive strategies for communication disorders.

C-PEC aims to develop and implement evidence-based, community-centered models for the early identification, prevention, and management of communication disorders. The Center seeks to generate region-specific epidemiological data, engage local stakeholders, and design scalable screening and intervention frameworks. These efforts are directed toward reducing the burden of communication disorders and improving long-term communication health outcomes in diverse populations.

Key Focus Areas and Objectives

1. Prevention and Early Detection

C-PEC develops and implements screening tools and protocols for the early identification of speech, language, and hearing disorders in children. Special focus is placed on school-based screening, community outreach, and training of frontline workers to identify at-risk individuals at the earliest.

2. Epidemiological Research

The Center conducts large-scale population-based studies to determine the prevalence, risk factors, and patterns of communication disorders across various age groups and regions. Findings are used to inform policy, optimize resource allocation, and prioritize public health interventions.

3. Intersectoral Collaboration

Recognizing the importance of collective effort, C-PEC fosters partnerships with government bodies, schools, and NGOs community health networks to implement and evaluate sustainable tools to identify individuals who are at-risk for communication disorder.

Vission and Mission

OUR VISION

To serve as a national center of excellence in preventive communication healthcare by advancing epidemiological research, fostering community empowerment, and developing sustainable strategies to reduce the burden of communication disorders.

OUR MISSION

To prevent communication disorders through early identification, to advance scientific understanding through robust research, and comprehensive capacity-building initiatives.
