About Gymkhana

The AIISH Gymkhana, at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysuru, serves as a vibrant and inclusive platform that fosters holistic development and extracurricular engagement among students, faculty, staff, and their families. Established in 2004, the Gymkhana was envisioned as a community hub to enhance the overall campus experience beyond academics and research. It is located in the serene Panchavati Campus, approximately one kilometre from the Main Campus of AIISH. It aims to encourage, develop, and promote participation in a wide range of social, cultural, recreational, and literary activities, thereby nurturing creativity, teamwork, and leadership within the AIISH community. It also serves as a vibrant hub for sports, fitness, and recreation for both students and staff of the Institute. Gymkhana is having various clubs.

Sports Club

The Sports Club aims to foster physical fitness, sportsmanship, and a healthy lifestyle among members of the Institute. It organizes regular sports activities, tournaments, fitness events, and recreational games, providing opportunities for participation at both competitive and recreational levels. The club emphasizes discipline, teamwork, resilience, and overall physical well-being.

Literary and Arts Club

The Literary and Arts Club provides a creative and intellectual forum for members to express ideas, thoughts, and artistic talents. Activities include debates, quizzes, essay writing, poetry, painting, sketching, and other literary and visual art forms. The club encourages critical thinking, creativity, effective communication, and appreciation of art and literature.

Music and Dance Club

The Music and Dance Club celebrates cultural diversity and artistic expression through music and movement. It organizes performances, workshops, and practice sessions in various forms of vocal and instrumental music as well as classical and contemporary dance styles. The club offers a platform for members to showcase talent, build confidence, and experience the joy of performing arts.

Welfare Club

The Welfare Club is committed to promoting social responsibility, empathy, and community welfare. It undertakes initiatives related to health, well-being, environmental awareness, and social outreach. Through welfare activities, the club aims to build a supportive and inclusive campus culture while encouraging members to contribute positively to society.

Together, these clubs under the Gymkhana, AIISH create a dynamic and inclusive environment that supports personal growth, cultural enrichment, physical health, and social engagement.

Sports & Recreation Facilities

Outdoor Sports Facilities

On entering the Panchavati Campus, the cricket ground, located on the right side, stands as the heart of student sporting activity. The Gymkhana organizes four to five cricket tournaments annually, with enthusiastic participation from both boys and girls.

Further ahead, the football ground is situated on the left side, with the volleyball court located behind it, providing ample space for outdoor team sports and regular practice sessions.

Indoor Sports Facilities

The Gymkhana main building consists of two floors, offering a variety of indoor sports and fitness options:

A personalized fitness trainer is available during both morning and evening sessions to assist gym users.

Events & Outreach

In addition to organizing intra-institutional activities such as cultural festivals, sports competitions, talent exhibitions, and literary meets, the Gymkhana also actively engages in inter-institutional events. By hosting and participating in programs involving neighboring universities and organizations, it strengthens professional networks and fosters academic and cultural collaboration, positioning the Gymkhana as a bridge between AIISH and the wider community.

Events 2025–26

  1. AIISH AAWAAZ: AIISH AAWAAZ 2025, a vibrant cultural event organized by the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysuru, was held on 26th and 27th April 2025 at the AIISH Gymkhana, Panchavati Campus. The event commenced with an inauguration ceremony on 26th April at 4:00 PM, graced by chief guest Sri K. Kalyan, noted songwriter and musical composer, and was presided over by Dr. M. Pushpavathi, Director of AIISH. The two-day fest showcased a wide array of student talents through diverse competitions and performances, including photography, skits, painting, group songs, fashion show, solo singing, and creative events such as cooking without fire, zero waste, and hogathon on Day 1. Day 2 featured engaging activities like stand-up comedy, solo and group dance, debate, creative writing, short movie, mime, adzap, and face painting, among others, reflecting creativity, teamwork, and artistic expression. The event concluded with a valedictory function on 27th April at 6:30 PM, with renowned singer Sri Aniruddha Sastry as the chief guest, marking a successful celebration of talent and cultural spirit at AIISH.

2. Sourabha inter-collegiate Competition: The Institute students participated in the Sourabha inter-collegiate competition, a renowned cultural festival held at Ravindra Kala Mandira,  Bengaluru from 18th to 26th February 2025.

  

3. Open-Mic: An open-mic event was organised on 19th February 2025 at the Amphi-theatre of the Gymkhana, which provided an excellent platform for students and AIISH staff to showcase their talents and artistic expressions.

4. Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated from from 10th  to 18th November, 2025. The three-day event featured a variety of cultural programs and competitions like Kannada Quiz, Rangoli Competition, Matadu-Matadu, Group dance competition, Group song competition, Reels Making that highlighted Karnataka's rich heritage and traditions. The celebrations concluded with a valedictory function on 18th November, 2025, graced by Dr. Sundeep, Head, PG Department of Kannada, JSS College, a distinguished expert in Kannada language, who served as the chief guest.

5. Christmas: The Institute celebrated Christmas on 23rd December, 2025. The event saw enthusiastic participation from staff and students. Various cultural activities were organised, fostering a festive spirit and community engagement among attendees. The occasion was marked by various cultural activities that created a joyful festive atmosphere and promoted a sense of community and togetherness, making the occasion truly memorable for all who attended. 🎄✨

6. New Year Celebrations

The Institute celebrated the New Year on 1st January 2026 in a warm, cordial, and inclusive atmosphere. Senior faculty members and student representatives conveyed their New Year greetings to the gathering, marking the beginning of the year with positivity and unity.

Special emphasis was placed on honoring the faculty and staff members superannuating during the year 2026, in recognition of their dedicated and valuable contributions to the Institute. As a humble and meaningful gesture of appreciation, the superannuating staff members were invited to take the lead in the cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing gratitude, respect, and collective goodwill for the year ahead

7. Ifthar: The AIISH Gymkhana organised an Iftar gathering at the Institute's Amphitheatre on 23rd March, 2025.

  

8. Republic Day Celebrations: The Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysuru. The program began with the unfurling of the National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem, instilling a sense of pride and unity among all present. The event included a welcome address, highlighting the significance of the Constitution of India and the values of dignity, justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity values that are central not only to a republic, but also to mental health and human well-being. This was followed by an address by the Chief Guest Lt Col Lakshmi Mohan, Service Officer, DIBT, Msyore who emphasized the responsibilities of citizens in upholding democratic principles and contributing to national development. The Director also addressed the gathering, reflecting on the institute’s commitment to inclusivity and service. Cultural performances by students added vibrancy to the celebration, highlighting patriotic themes through songs and dance. The program concluded on a note of collective commitment towards building a progressive and inclusive nation.

9. International Womens’ Day Celebrations :

To celebrate the spirit, strength, and resilience of women, International Women’s Day was celebrated at AIISH Gymkhana on 13 April 2026 in the Seminar Hall, Academic Block, at 4:30 p.m. as the day officially fell on Sunday this year. Celebration was initiated by a panel discussion on the theme “Women in Leadership: Building Resilience and Excellence.” The program brought together distinguished speakers, including Dr. Ajith Kumar U, Professor, Department of Audiology; Dr. Ram Kumar, Chief Administrative Officer; Dr. Prawin Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Audiology; and Mr. Freddy Antony, Assistant Professor, Department of Clinical Psychology, with Dr. Rushi, Professor and Head, Department of Clinical Psychology, serving as the moderator. Distinguished panellists shared their perspectives and reflections on how institutions, colleagues, and leaders can contribute to building environments where women can thrive with confidence, dignity, and well-being. The discussion highlighted the importance of women’s leadership, resilience, equality, and professional excellence and was followed by various fun-filled and encouraging games designed around day to day household and routine life skills. As part of the celebrations, a reels making competition was also conducted, providing a creative platform for participants to express their views on women’s empowerment and the significance of women’s contributions to society.

10. SPORTS ACTIVITIES:

  1. AIISH Volleyball League and Football:  The AIISH Volleyball League (AVL) & Football event were organised for boys and girls on 17th January 2025.
  2. Cricket tournament: A cricket tournament (Men & Women) was organised on 18th & 19th January 2025.
  3. Handball Tournament: The Women's handball Tournament was organised from 20th to 24th January 2025.
  4. Throwball Tournament: Throwball Tournament for Women was organised from 20th to 24th January 2025.
  5. Ratha Sapthami Yoga: A week-long yoga training was organised by the Gymkhana on 4th February 2025. 
  6. Kite Flying: A Kite flying event organised for the students and staff on 9th February 2025.

Dr. Kuppuraj Memorial Sports Meet & Wantei Memorial Cup – 2025: 

The Dr. Kuppuraj Memorial Sports Meet – 2025 Season 6 was successfully organized in memory of Late Dr. Kuppuraj Sengottuvel, an esteemed AIISH alumnus and Postdoctoral Newton International Fellow at the OSCCI, University of Oxford. The event continues to honour his legacy and contributions to the AIISH community through sports and teamwork. This year’s program also included the Wantei Memorial Football and Handball Tournament, held in memory of our late student Mr. Wantei, celebrating his enthusiasm and dedication towards sports.

The enthusiastic participation of students and alumni made the event a great success, promoting the spirit of unity, friendship, and sportsmanship within the AIISH community.

Cricket Match: Staff vs. Students

The Staff vs. Students Cricket Match, organized by the AIISH Gymkhana, commenced on 10th October 2025 at the Panchavati Campus. The event was conducted in a spirited and friendly atmosphere, fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship, and healthy interaction between faculty, staff, and students.

The match provided an excellent platform for informal engagement beyond academics, strengthening mutual respect and teamwork within the AIISH community. Enthusiastic participation and lively encouragement from spectators made the event a memorable sporting experience, reflecting the Institute’s commitment to promoting physical fitness, unity, and campus well-being.
