About Director
Prof. M. Pushpavathi completed her undergraduate [B.Sc (Speech & Hearing)], post graduate [M.Sc (Speech and Hearing)], and Ph.D (Speech and Hearing) degree from the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Manasagangothri, Mysore.
She has over 22 years of experience in teaching undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students. She is a Professor in Speech Language Pathology and the Director currently. Her special areas of interest include the disorders of speech specifically speech disorders related to orofacial anomalies and voice disorders. She has guided 75 masters and 8 doctoral students for their Dissertations and Thesis. She has been a member of Board of Studies and Board of Examiners of several Universities in India.
She has published 75 scientific papers in national and international journals. She had several extramural projects funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Bio-technology, IMPRINT and Indian Council of Medical Research. She has also completed 10 projects funded by the AIISH Research Fund. She is a life member of the Indian Speech and Hearing Association and Indian Society of Cleft Lip, Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies. She is the reviewer of several Journals. She has headed the Departments of Clinical Services, Speech Language Pathology, Tele-centre for Persons with Communication Disorders and Special Education at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore. She had also served as Academic coordinator of the institute for two years, DHLS coordinator for Mumbai Centre, Estate Officer, Vice President- AIISH Gymkhana, and Chairperson of the unit for structural orofacial anomalies (USOFA).
She is a recipient of the prestigious Prof. Rais Ahmed Memorial Award instituted by the Acoustical Society of India.
Prof. M. Pushpavathi took over as the Director of the All India Institute of Speech & Hearing, Mysore on 17th October 2018, succeeding Dr. S.R. Savithri.

Welcome to the world wide web of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore. These pages will take you through the activities of the institute, its contributions, achievements and future aspirations.
All India Institute of Speech and Hearing with its name at birth name as Institute of Logopedics, was instituted on 9 th of August 1965 under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. It was later registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 (Punjab Amendment) Act, 1957 on 10 th October 1966 and is functioning as an autonomous body under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The institute has been recognized as a centre of excellence in the area of deafness (WHO), as a centre for advanced research (UGC) and as a Science and Technology Institute (DST).
This premier institute in the area of speech and hearing is recognized for its manpower generation programs, patient care and rehabilitation programs and research. Today, it offers a wide range of courses - certificate courses to Ph. D, covering the areas of Speech, Language, Hearing and Special Education. Apart from offering state of art multidisciplinary diagnostic therapeutic and educational services to individuals with communication disorders of all age groups it has specialty clinics such as Listening Training Unit, AAC Unit, Professional Voice Care Unit and Preschool programs for children with hearing impairment, autism and mental retardation. Facilities for forensic voice analysis are also available. Those trained at this institute have made a name for themselves, both in India and abroad. A wide range of multidisciplinary research on prevention, early identification, intervention strategies for persons with Hearing Impairment and Communication disorders, development of aids and devices, genetics of hearing impairment and speech speaker recognition are some of the frontal areas of research at the institute. The institute has established a research fund of its own from which short-term grants are available to any faculty / consultant working in a Government organization. Specialists in allied fields like neurology, genetics, epidemiology, linguistics, biotechnology, otolaryngology, clinical psychology, neonatology and pediatrics working in government institutions can avail grants from this fund.
Multidisciplinary manpower generation through distance education, public education, dissemination of information, home training programs for children with communication disorders and their parents, and empowerment of mothers / caregivers, through both electronic and print media are other goals to achieve in the forthcoming years.
